True Colors by Kristin HannahGet out your tissues, you are going to need them.
Wednesday I had a flight to Seattle and back and since it was such a short day, round-trip flight in only 18 hours, I decided I could do without a book and so I did not take one with me. I know, I cannot believe it either. I decided I would just do work things. Well as often occurs at the airport flights are delayed and other things occur, so I ended up with 5 extra hours on my hands than originally anticipated.
The first three hours I did alright, working on whatever I could here and there and even took a few notes for my next novel, but with the noise and mayhem an airport exudes I ended up forgetting my writing and ended up bored out of my mind. What else is there to do when bored than to head to the closest book stand/store. I browsed for close to half an hour narrowing down my choice to two books. In the end I chose the one with the most pink on the cover, I know a bad way to finally make a ruling, but I am a softy when it comes to the very feminine color. Whatever the reason that made me chose “True Colors” by Kristin Hannah, I am so glad that I did.
At the airport I only made it through the prologue and part of chapter one as books are often a little deeper than the average printout from a conference or elearners, and then the book got placed in my briefcase promptly left for a few days. It had a little bit of a slow start so originally I was not sure how good of a choice I had made, but boy was I in for a surprise.
This weekend with my husband out of town I remembered the book and sat down (beginning at 11:30 pm) to read a little bit. A little bit, mind you, well I am now going on 32 hours of no sleep because I stayed up all night reading. I did not realize the time until my two sons came into my room wrapped in their blankets saying ‘morning mama’ as they wiped the sleepy’s from their eyes and climbed onto my bed.
Here is my quick synopsis, without giving anything away too much away.
Once Dallas Raintree, a half Indian with a past littered in unsavory events, entered the book and the life of Vivi Ann Grey the book takes on a ton of intrigue. There is passionate love (but tasteful and not graphic, you can just feel the passion), heartbreak of the worst kind, sorrow, people in the depths of despair and depression.
In a nutshell, this man with a past is accused, tried and convicted of murder. The book is the ensuing 12 years of sorrow for the Grey family, 3 sisters and a father. Winona, the eldest sister and lawyer has a grudge that causes the three sisters to tear apart, and ultimately keeps them off and on estranged for years.
So many things happen in this story that I would love to share with you, but this is a story that telling any piece can ultimately give a piece of the book away and this particular story needs the drama and suspense for a first time reader.
It is amazing and I give it a definite 5 stars and if I could give it 10 I would.

This sounds fantastic if it had you up so long reading it! I always enjoy a book that can make me cry, they are few and far in between.
Happy Valentines Day
are you thinking to write another noval about the DARCYS/BINGLYS and their famlies???? i would enjoy that very much!!! loved “Longbourn’sUnexpected Matchmaker”.
Annette, I am so glad you enjoyed Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker. I have not decided yet if I will write a sequel to LUM, but I have been working on another piece of fan fiction called “The Truth Abut Mrs. Bennet” It would be a prequel to Pride and Prejudice, stopping where Pride and Prejudice begins.
Many people have asked for a LUM Sequel so I may consider it, but right now my book tour is taking a lot of time. Luckily I can write a lot in the hotels and stuff, but stories always flow better at home so I will pick up more in May when things calm down a bit.
I will keep you updated though.
